Land Rover Trophy in co with Helmeringhausen Farmers Union 100 year celebrations
In conjunction with the Helmeringhausen Farmers Union 100 Year Celebrations
Date: 1 to 5 May 2025
Overview
The event will start in Maltahoe on 1 May. We start gathering around 10.30 at the Maltahoe Hotel. There we can wonder through their museum and reminisce the past.
Lunch will be served as from 12.00 and we depart for Duwiseb around 13.30.
We expect to arrive at Duwiseb around 14.30 and some time will be spent wondering through the Duwiseb Castle with it’s intriguing history.
We depart for Betta Camp where we will spend the night. Good ablutions and shady camp sites. Chalets are also available.
On 2 May we depart to Aubures Camp and 4×4 trail. This farm has belonged to the Miller family for 115 years. The original farm is round 40 000 hectares in size but has been split in two between the Miller brothers. We will do a 4×4 trail for those who are comfortable with the route. This will count as the first challenge of the trophy. A talk on the Karakul farming in the area and the feasibility thereof in the present time will be presented by Jorn Miller farm owner. There is an interesting hiking route to the bushmen drawings in the nearby caves for those who wish to do so. A magic sundowner is on the cards before we have supper and retire for the evening.
From there we proceed to Sinclair Mine (awaiting confirmation) to explore the history of this mine after which we proceed to Helmeringhausen to join the Helmeringhausen Farmers Union Market Day.
We then depart for Soetdoring camping area in the Konkiep river some 37 kilometres South East of Helmeringhausen.
Soetdoring belongs to Jan Coetzee and we will be camping in the Konkiep River where the C14 and the D421 meet. Ablutions will be available and catering arrangements at this time will be self-catering.
Safari drive, river challenge, canyon climb etc. will be on the program at Soetdoring. There will also be time to have a rest if need be.
We finish off our program on Sunday at 14.00. Prize giving is at 15.00 after which those of you who wish to return homewards can make an early start and sleep over where ever your chosen route takes you.
There are a number of very interesting off the beaten track routes to take on our way home.
The program can be varied at short notice however no major changes are anticipated and you can do your planning accordingly.
Accommodation bookings where applicable will be handled by Cindy and the following establishments need to be booked. Betta Chalets and Camping and Aubures Camping only. Accommodation on your return home will be your responsibility. Accommodation at Soetdoring will be at no charge.
